Social networking is a trend that will continue to grow as a school resource. We have to make it useful in our classrooms and media centers as a learning and communication tool. Gaggle sounds interesting. I hope it proves to be a useful tool in your school. You gave great suggestions on how to incorporate social networking in the class and schoolwide. Parents and students will turn to social networking sites for class happenings and updates. It is important as a teacher to maintain and communicate using an aesthetically pleasing, updated site that is loaded with useful information.

Peace, Love, Read: Shannon Hemsley

Not so long ago, when people thought of social networking, they thought of facebook and twitter, but now there is SO much more available. UWG has definitely opened my eyes to some such as delicious, flickr, library thing and blogger. More and more schools, parents, teachers and students are jumping on the social networking bandwagon in order to stay abreast of classroom and school news. The use of social networking and sites will continue to grow.

Wow! You listed quite a few sites I had never heard of. I will definitely look into them. Thanks for the new information. Social networking is a trend, I believe will continue to grow and develop. I expect more sites to be developed in the future. As we continue to rely on technology in this era, the school community needs to be able to find information electronically. Social networking helps make that possible. A class network can be the go to place for parents, students and administration. Your site should have information such as homework, current events and photos. Ongoing checks of the site will keep you in the know..

Accelerated Reading

Build a Lifelong Love of Reading!!

Lucky 7 Elementary is proud to announce the Accelerated Reader (AR) program. Our goal is to increase reading comprehension and create lifelong learners.

Students read books of their choice and at their appropriate reading level. Books are read at the student's pace, followed by an online quiz designed to motivate and monitor the student's reading performance and vocabulary growth. Feedback is immediate. Parents are encouraged to get involved with their student reviewing quiz results and searching for new reading materials.

Clubs and Activities

WLES

WLES is Lucky Elementary's own news program that is broadcast each morning over the central distribution system.  Fourth and Fifth grade students are chosen to produce, direct, and run the news program each day.  Several crews are selected each year, and this is a great privilege to be chosen to participate.  The fourth and fifth grade students are in charge of writing scripts, running the sound equipment, operating the camera, and informing the school community of the day's and future events.  Our students do a terrific job!

Student Council
The Student Council is open to all students in grades 3-5.  All interested students must attend a meeting where they are given expectations of Student Council Representatives.  Those candidates who are interested write a speech explaining why they would make a good representative for their class.  Elections are held after speeches are given to determine who will represent each classroom.
Student Council members participate in school and community projects.  They collect newspapers for recycling, work on Saturdays in the Outdoor Classroom, and raise money to help with different community projects including Habitat for Humanity.  Representatives must attend 2 monthly meetings at 7:30 AM.  They must maintain passing grades as well as good conduct grades.  The representatives work hard to represent their classes and our school.  They do a fantastic job!
